Water Day on the Farm

Norman's been working a ton of hours because every time we have a baby he goes into crazy work mode.  He blames work, but this is the third time this has happened and so I don't know who's to blame.  Anywho, so he's been doing 70+ hour weeks and I've been trying to keep 2 kids and a newborn entertained.  Yesterday we decided to go play at Grandpa and Grandma Petersen's.  I'm amazed I've gone this long without going up there for help, but my mom's been coming here or we've had things going on if I really think about it.  We did have a couple of weekends where we just stayed home and chilled, but we've kept pretty busy.  We had a bit of a late start, but by 11:30 we were pulling into grandpa and grandma's driveway.  When we pulled in the first thing I noticed was all of the water...it was irrigation day. I have fond memories of irrigation day from when I was a kid.  We LOVED running through that disgustingly dirty water.  The day started with some minor playing in the water.
There's more water in the backyard.  Look how fun it is to run.
Grandpa had to go turn the water off so out came the four wheeler.
My dad thought it was hilarious to splash me.  This is my favorite picture.  The look of glee on Meg and Matt's face is priceless.
The four wheeler was tearing up the lawn, so the lawnmower worked better.  This sled has been a blast to be pulled on.
 Round and round they go
Andrew wasn't forgotten.  He got this cool bed we made out of an old couch cushion, a chair cushion and an blanket.  The weather was perfect for being on the front porch.
Hot dog rolls in the remaining water.
Oh the mud.  My dad said to them (teasing of course) "stay out of my mud".  Matt replied "No, it's not your mud, it's our mud" and Megan added "We made it, it's our mud!"  Oh these two!!!
They'd cover themselves in mud and then run and "wash off" in the dirty water
Time for a ride in a cart behind the four wheeler.  Oh...we're so clean.

I was watching them ride in the field next door when I looked in the ditch and saw the moss growing.  I remember as a kid I LOVED this moss.  It was so slimy and fun.
 Riding in the field.
We actually had them take a bath at my parent's house.  Grass was caked to their cute little bums.  It was so funny as they pulled down their swimsuits to see the grass all over, I didn't expect that.  I also gained a new level of respect for my mom.  When I rinsed the kids off it made a HUGE mess in the tub.  I rinsed it a little, but anything we touched got messy (tub, sink, floor).  I used to make those messes constantly as a kid.  No wonder my mom would get frustrated with our messes.

The kids (Meg and Matt) came home and went to bed and Andrew and I chilled for a bit longer together.
He was so happy to be home and in his comfy jammies!!

Craft Day - Fish

For today's craft they made fish out of tissue paper and carboard rolls.  They are pretty cute and the kids did a good job of listening and doing what they were supposed to.  While doing this Matt would say "this is the best craft ever" and "wow! This is amazing".  I was chuckling and so was a mother daughter across from us.  The girl had to be just under 10 and I said something to the mom about how I know I need to enjoy this while I can because right now such little things make him happy.  I'm so glad they do make them happy though.  I'm hoping I can always help my kids remember to enjoy the simple things in life.

 Aww...who wouldn't love that face!

Craft Day - Dinosaur Hats

Amanda found classes through Michaels for crafting.  We signed up and today was the first day we could go and stay for the craft (Mon and Wed they had preschool so she picked up the stuff and they did them at home).  Today they made Dinosaur foam hats and a pterodactyl on a stick.  Matt had a bit of a melt down with the pterodactyl when I went to fold it in half, but otherwise they did pretty good.  Andrew was a champ (as usual) and slept the whole time.  What a great baby he is!!
I could not get them to smile together...Ok, I couldn't get Matt to cooperate, Meg was cooperative...Here's Megan's "scary" face.

Oh no! She's going to eat me!!!!

Andrew Russell Grant

Andrew was born on Tuesday April 19th at 7:33 PM in the Salt Lake Regional hospital.  He was 7lbs 11oz (well technically 10.8oz).  I have been so sore that I was positive he'd be my biggest baby.  Boy, I was wrong.  During the entire pregnancy he'd move a ton and I was positive he'd be active, but he's actually pretty chill.  He wiggles in his sleep, but he's not demanding and is content being held.  I'm not a pro selfie taker, but here I am 9 months pregnant.  I didn't really gain much weight this pregnancy which is nice.

I took Monday off in order to get some last minute things ready for baby.  I waddled through a couple of stores and got my hair cut.  I went a few months ago and wanted my hair chopped and she didn't really take off much length.  This time I asked for a couple of inches and she took quite a bit more and added a lot more layers.  It works though because it's easier to do this way.  I had to get over the initial shock though.

We were supposed to call the hospital at 6:30 AM on Tuesday and then go in if they were ready, but they called at 9:30 the night before and told me they'd had some emergencies come in so they'd call me when they were ready.  I didn't sleep at all on Monday night because I was so worried about labor and delivery as well as I was nervous they wouldn't have me come in at all on Tuesday.  It worked out better in some ways though because we were able to get Megan and Matt up and ready for preschool and send them off.  They called me just before 10:30 and said to come anytime after 11.  Norman and I loaded the van and off we went.  They checked us in to Room 4 and we found out that this was the first time they'd delivered a baby in that room since the remodel.  It was a great room and there was an awesome tree right outside of the window which provided a nice feel.  There were all sorts of things missing from the room though so that made it fun.  I had the best nurse!  She hit the IV right on and it was the best IV I've ever had.  Her name was Vez and she was great!!  The Dr was there within 30 min and my water was broke.  They put a monitor in Andrew's head (sorry baby boy) because he moved a lot and the external monitors aren't fun if the baby moves all over the place.  I didn't have the epidural yet though so he'd wiggle his head around and I could feel the sensor bumping against things down there.  It was quite trippy.  They wanted to see if I'd naturally go into labor, but alas, I didn't.  They started the pictocin by about 2 and my parents arrived before 4.  The contractions started to get pretty strong so we asked for the epidural.  It took quite a while for the guy to get there and I was having pretty good contractions by the time they started to put it in.  I had the same lady with Meg and Matt and she was fast and gave me enough that I was totally numb.  I warned him that my blood pressure drops when I get an epidural so he started with a low dose.  The crazy thing is it took forever to get the epidural in.  I guess he had to try 3 times and it was quite upsetting to him because he's a perfectionist.  Vez, the nurse, said it was good for him and keeps him humble.  My mom said there was blood dripping down my back and she was shocked at how involved things were.  He finally got the epidural in and for a little bit my blood pressure stayed steady, but alas, it didn't last and down I went.  We were ready though and they were able to get things back to semi normal.  I ended up with only 3/5 of the dose because as the anesthesiologist said I'm a "gentle giant"...well....he said he was shocked how sensitive my body is for as big as I am and I told him I'm a gentle giant :)  Because the dose was lower I felt a lot more this time.  He'd actually forgot to turn the machine on and for a while I went without any additional meds.  He left the room and came back a bit later after I'd pushed the button for the "extra dose".  Dr. Robinson came in a little later and checked me and said I was about a 9 and 1/2 and she'll go chart and let me have a couple more contractions.  This was of course right before shift change.  Vez was leaving....bummer.  Oh well, we made it.  Shift change happened and in came the new crew and we were going to have a baby.

Norman, my mom and my dad were there along with the nurses and doctor.  My mom wanted a chair just in case she passed out (which she didn't).  They got the room ready and it was time to push.  I had a contraction and pushed.  They said the head was almost out and that kind of surprised me.  I didn't realize he'd some so fast.  It kind of hurt to leave his head where it was and luckily Dr. Robinson said I could push between contractions.  I started to push and the nurse said "deep breath" because they'd say "deep breath, now push push push".  I was kind of like "oh yah...breathe".  I took a quick breath while pushing and kept going. his head was almost out so another push and then I was told to stop because the cord was around his neck.  They fixed the cord and one more push and we were done.  It was FAST.  Kind of anticlimactic actually.  I can't believe this is my last baby and it was that fast and easy.  Oh well, the 9 months of torture leading up to this point are horrible and I can't do that again.  I'd totally love more kids, but I'm too old for this whole pregnancy thing.

One last kiss from my mom before the pushing begins.
 Daddy Clipping the cord
Here's Andrew in all his perfection!!

 Happy Daddy
 Getting checked out

He was not a fan of all of this attention. 7 lbs 10.8 oz

 That's going to go where!?!?!
 Get the footprints
Mom getting stitches and talking to the Dr with Grandma
It's serious work putting on the first diaper...don't mess it up daddy!
Holding him for the first time

 Grandma wants to see

 She couldn't wait any longer

I was having some issues right after having him.  I had uncontrolled shivers which was driving me batty.  We didn't get a picture of when I had the blankets up around my head, but I had a ton of warm blankets on me and eventually they even went around my head.
 Gotta check out his hands

 So excited :D
He was getting too cold so we had to put him back under the heater
Patiently waiting for him to warm up
 My turn
I don't have a picture of Grandpa holding him, but I have this picture of Grandpa's feet

It took quite a while (ok, until 6 AM the next morning), but finally the nursery was ready for his bath.  In we went for his first bath.

 All clean!

I took this picture before his bath that night after I had him.  I needed a picture on my phone that I could send to people.
The next morning they came in to do baby pictures.  I bought Megan's pics from the hospital, but Matt's weren't impressive.  I figured I'd buy Andrew's because I had no energy to take pictures this time, but they ended up turning out AMAZING!!

Both of my rooms (labor & delivery and then recovery) had a great tree right outside of them.

His hair looks kind of red, but this had to have been enhanced a little.  I wish he was going to have red hair, but I'm pretty sure he'll be a blondie.

I still can't believe how great they turned out.  I hadn't slept much the night before and hadn't washed my makeup off from the previous day.  It doesn't look as smudged as I'm sure it was.  So happy with these pictures!
