Scouts

I'm still one of our nursery music leaders (yup...we still have 4 nurseries!) and on Thursday they had a primary ice cream social for all of the primary workers. Norman and I were sitting there enjoying our ice cream when the primary president came over. She was talking to us and she asked Norman what his calling was. When he said home teacher she was shocked and asked how he flew under the radar. She then asks him what his dream calling would be. He said that he really enjoyed being scout master, but there aren't any young men in this ward so that wasn't possible. She smiled and said that we do have lots of cub scouts though. I about died laughing!!! I couldn't believe he told the primary president of a very young ward that he likes scouts. He's all "what should I have said??" I told him he should have replied that his dream calling was to be the assistant music nursery leader :) On Sunday we went to sacrament meeting and a member of the bishopric came up to us and asked if Norman could meet with him after the block. I laughed the WHOLE way down the hall. I was telling Norman to work on his handshakes and how cute he was going to be as a den leader, blah blah blah. They had combined Priesthood/RS so we actually got to sit together. In the role binder there was a primary flyer so I pulled it out and was showing Norman how they had just done the rain gutter regatta and how they meet on Wednesday nights at 7. There was a picture and lots of little boys so I was telling him how much fun it was going to be teaching all of them. He really is a patient man because I did deserve to be slapped. We meet with the bishopric and he was asking about Norman's schedule. I jumped in and said "so essentially honey, what are you doing Wednesday nights at 7?" The guy looked at me shocked, how could I know that? I started to laugh and told him about the conversation with the primary president. Actually it ended up not being bad, in fact Norman is excited! Norman is now going to work with the 11 year old boys...well...for now we only have one so we'll say boy. He's soooo excited. It's the transition group so he actually gets to go camping and everything. Right now there is only one boy, but next month there will be two. The best part of this. Norman gets at least 3 camping trips a year out of this and I don't have to go!!!! HALLELUJAH!!! This is the best!

  1. What a perfect calling, 11 yr old scouts is hard because in the church they cram about 2 years worth of stuff into 1 year. But since Norman already knows Boy Scouts, he knows what the 11 yr olds need to do to be ready when they turn 12.

But I think he should double as the assistant nursery music leader, it would give him practise for umm, campfire singing maybe? Do Scouts sing around the campfire? If not, they should start.
